  • Advising a European insurer on a US$60 million fire claim after a large chemical fire at a manufacturing company in Indonesia underlying insurance subject to arbitration and litigation in Jakarta.  Interestingly two police reports were produced.  One showed the fire took place the day before cover incepted.  The second showed that the fire took place after cover incepted.
  • Gathering evidence to support a US$250 million telecoms Business Interruption arbitration claim following a fire at a semi-conductor plant.  Our clients were leading manufacturers of mobile telephones and it was necessary to establish how much market loss they had suffered. Evidence relating to the quantum of the claim collected from interviews in Australia, Philippines, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
  • Advising electronics company on ICC arbitration in Singapore relating to construction of manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India.
  • Advising several international reinsurers in relation to a US$40 million claim subject to Indonesian arbitration arising from a failure of an air separation unit in Surabaya leading to an interruption at the adjacent copper smelter, which was dependant on the oxygen supply.
  • Advising a Malaysian reinsurer on arbitration in Taiwan and litigation in Kuala Lumpur to enforce a Taiwanese arbitration award relating to theft of electronic components.
  • Advising large pulp and paper company on the dispute resolution provisions to be used in a contract for the construction of a US$1bn paper mill in Australia.
  • Advising European and Japanese treaty reinsurers on the conduct of arbitrations against cedants in relation to flood and fire losses in the Philippines where the insureds factory premises were completely destroyed.  Taking steps in the arbitration in Manila on behalf of clients. Settling the claims.
  • Advising a large European reinsurer on a US$10 million claim brought by Japanese contractors following the collapse of a gantry crane during the construction of a bridge between Thailand and Laos with potential arbitration in Singapore.
  • Advising several European and US reinsurers in respect of a US$12 million arbitration claim arising from damage to one of the world’s largest pulp and paper mills in Indonesia.
  • Acting for Japanese Reinsurer in respect of US$60 million claim following defective construction of cement silos in Saudi Arabia.  Succeeding in having claim withdrawn.
  • Providing second opinion to reinsurers following fire and breakdown of the newly constructed great observation wheel in Singapore.
  • Advising Japanese insurers following the collapse of a bridge during land reclamation near an island off Singapore.
